Take your lunch to Zimbabwe

Anyone work near Charing Cross in London? If so, pop down to the Strand for your lunch break to join in an ACTSA/PCS/TUC demo in support of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions’ “stay away” from work.

Those that can stay away are now the lucky ones in a country where 80% are unemployed. But even those with jobs find it impossible to make ends meet. Millions have left to seek work in neighbouring countries and send supplies home, and millions more are facing starvation as Mugabe refuses to do anything to get the economy back on track.

The brave strikers in Zimbabwe deserve all the support they can get - especially as they know full well what could happen to them for standing up to Mugabe. Good news of support from Gordon Brown in the papers today - maybe he’ll walk round the corner to join in today ;) - Even if he doesn’t, come to hear from the ZCTU’s Toko Siwela

13,900% inflation means Zimbabwean workers will find their wages are worth almost 2% less when they come back from just one hour’s lunchbreak. Can you give up one of your lunchbreaks to help them out?

12-2pm, Zimbabwean Embassy, the Strand, London. Nearest Tube Charing Cross.

All of this obviously being my own thoughts and nothing you can pin on my employers present or past, my union, my local party, my mates, or anyone else you might confuse me with - most of whom don't agree with me about very much anyway.
